Renée Joosten nació en los Países Bajos, un territorio donde los días llegan a ser muy cortos. De ahí que siempre haya sabido valorar una iluminación eficaz. «Es algo que llevo en los genes», afirma.

Como directora de diseño de iluminación en Icrave, un estudio de diseño con prestigio internacional y sede en Nueva York, Joosten conoce muy bien las innumerables posibilidades que ofrece la iluminación para crear ambientes y atmósferas.

A diferencia de otras empresas en que los diseñadores de iluminación se incorporan más tarde al proceso, los diseñadores de interiores e iluminación de Icrave trabajan conjuntamente desde el inicio de un proyecto para desarrollar un esquema de diseño coherente.

«Esta colaboración demuestra que la iluminación no es una cuestión secundaria», explica Joosten.

El enfoque de Icrave consiste en examinar un proyecto y determinar cuáles son los objetivos a cumplir. Y es aquí donde la iluminación entra en el proceso.

Según Joosten: «La iluminación es uno de los mejores instrumentos para contar la historia de un espacio. En cierto modo, la iluminación es una especie de personaje; un personaje muy relevante».

Tal como nos dice, la iluminación afecta íntegramente la forma en que percibimos un espacio: «Si disponemos de un espacio grande, podemos incluso reducir su tamaño a través de la iluminación adecuada. Y viceversa. De hecho, con la luz podemos abrir un espacio. La luz es una especie de magia».

«La iluminación debe despertar emociones».
